Walsh Bathroom MakeoverThis bathroom is in the second story of a 70 year old home in North Arlington, Va. The bathroom was approximately 15-20 years old, and the homeowner was looking for an updated and fresh look. You can see in the before pictures, the original state of the bathroom when we were called was a cast iron tub, pedestal sink, and a wood floor. This was a unique project, in terms of the space we had to work with. There are angled ceilings (gables), a window above the existing tub, and a lot of un-usable or “dead” space. What we proposed was to update the bathroom with simple earth tone colored tile floor and shower, and to maximize all available space. The project started with the removal of the cast iron tub and wall tile, pedestal sink, toilet and wall mounted radiator. We then framed in the shower area and constructed a 5x5 custom tiled mud pan. On each side of the shower we took that dead space and built in custom pull out cabinets that will be used as linen storage. The plumbing was relocated to accommodate the new shower drain, rain head and hand held unit. All the plumbing hardware is oil rubbed bronze by Hans Grohe. We built in a 12x12 recessed niche for bottle storage and installed an 18” Durango travertine corner seat. The electrical was upgraded and brought to code with the addition of a GFI, and an exhaust fan was added. The result is a beautifully updated bathroom, with a greater use of space. By using a large format tile, set diagonally, we give the bathroom the appearance of being larger. The homeowner is thrilled with their new bathroom. "I was especially satisfied with the workmanship all the crew put in on the project. The workers were all highly skilled and they each took the time to get the smallest details right. It shows in the perfect lines of the tile layout and installation." |

Kitchen BacksplashHere you see a kitchen backsplash, designed at Mosaic Tile, and installed by Collins Tile and Stone. The designer took into account the style of the home, and the colors already existing on the walls. The design includes a large framed box with medallions over the kitchen desk, and a similar design with medallions over the counters in other parts of the kitchen and in the butler’s pantry, tying it all together. The homeowner was so pleased with this design and with the installation. This is a very intricate design, which added so much flair to the kitchen, and the entire main level of the home. The materials used were quartz tiles, and brushed nickel medallions and frame. The backsplash was finished off with faux painting of the outlet and phone covers to blend in and “disappear”. Call us today and we can start the design of your kitchen backsplash, or other project in your home!! |
